In a recent conference it was said that Hernando County had the largest population of government paid retirees bringing the average per capita income to some of the lowest in the country, about $28,500 per year. Our County Department of Economic Development needs to step outside the bounds of the Nature Coast and scour the planet for manufacturers that want and need to locate their business where there is a ready trained workforce at competitive wages and where there is affordable housing.
